Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is used to resurface the skin of the face following severe acne. This is the best treatment for this condition; much better than laser therapy. The superficial layers of skin are removed using a diamond wheel that spins at 2000 rpm. The procedure is similar to that of sanding down furniture when it has a deep scratch. The procedure softens the sharp edges on surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance. Healing takes about two weeks and is easily covered with make-up in one week.

Dermabrasion can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face. It can be used alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel.

This procedure was designed to improve and possibly remove the scars and pits that are found following a bad accident or acne. It does not remove wrinkles around the mouth or face and will not take the place of a facelift. Dermabrasion has real cosmetic value for the individual that has an irregular skin surface secondary to scarring. Dermabrasion is medicine's answer to sanding or planing down skin so that the surface can become smooth again. It reduces the sharp edges of the pits seen after acne, thus reducing the overhang and shadow, making the pits less noticeable. It will not improve scars that are the result of infection or trauma that have destroyed all layers of the skin, leaving deep pits.

Surgery

Dermabrasion and dermaplaning can be performed fairly quickly. The procedures usually take from a few minutes to an hour and a half, depending on how large an area of skin is involved. It's not uncommon for the procedure to be performed more than once, or in stages, especially when scarring is deep or a large area of skin is involved.

Dermabrasion is not for everyone. Dark-skinned individuals and redheads with freckles have a tendency to hyper pigment following a dermabrasion. A small number of people have noted enlargement of the pores in the affected areas following treatment. To safeguard the results you have gained, you are urged to avoid too much sun and severe facial massages. These tend to play havoc with our work and increase the wrinkling. It is not the lot of everyone to grow old gracefully, and thus, plastic surgery has been perfected so that people can continue to be attractive. Let everyone enjoy your new attractiveness, and if someone should guess our secret, do not be upset. How much you make of your new face will depend on your happiness, health, eye sparkle, hairstyle, and make-up.
